Nationwide family festival to mark International Family Equality Day (IFED)

On May 4, 2025, rainbow families from all over NRW came together for a day of action on International Family Equality Day (IFED) to demonstrate for their rights, show visibility and network. This year, the Schlossgarten in Münster opened its doors and invited people to spend an invigorating day in the countryside. Between 11:00 and 16:30, there was a colorful supporting program for parents and children.

Familiendialog.NRW: What do rainbow families need?

As an open offer, a family dialog for rainbow families took place from 13:30 - 15:00, in which Family Minister Josefine Paul also took part. The question "What do rainbow families need?" was discussed together. Participants had the opportunity to talk directly to the Minister, report on their experiences and exchange ideas.

The results of the family dialog will be incorporated into the North Rhine-Westphalia Family Report 2026, which will form the basis for setting the course for the state's family policy.

Parents and families who took part in the Family Dialogue had the opportunity to have their children looked after. It was not necessary to register for the Family Dialogue.

Many valuable experiences and perspectives have already been gathered as part of the Familiendialog.NRW for rainbow families. In order to make even more different realities of life visible, the dialog is now being continued in the form of an online survey.

By taking part in the survey, which is being conducted by Prognos on behalf of the Ministry of Family Affairs NRW, you are making an important contribution: you are helping to better understand the diversity of rainbow families in North Rhine-Westphalia and to further develop support services in a targeted manner.
